Collections Spotlight - Posters! • Galway City Museum

Every week we shine a light on a different object from our collections that you may not have seen before. This week we have a selection of posters acquired by the Museum in 2018. The posters date from the 1970s and 1980s and were used to advertise gigs/events in Galway. This particular selection is for music gigs including Eric Clapton and the Boomtown Rats.

The Boomtown Rats at Leisureland, Saturday, 31 December, 1977. Admission tickets cost £2.

Eric Clapton and his band with the Freddie White Band at Leisureland, Galway, on Sunday, 11 March 1979 on the ‘first ever nationwide tour by rocks most incredible guitarist’. Tickets cost £3.50 and the Connacht Tribune reported that it was a ‘sell out gig’.

Midnight Runners with The Black Arabs and The Upset at Seapoint Galway, Wednesday, 23 July 1980. The Connacht Sentinel reported that ‘recent British chart toppers the Dexys Midnight Runners’ were one of the highlights of the music scene in Galway that summer.
