From the 15th century onwards the tower house, with its defensive bawn, became the residence of choice of Gaelic chiefs and Old English lords. Join archaeologist Paul Naessens, NUI Galway, as he discusses the O’Flaherty tower houses west of Lough Corrib with a particular focus on Aughnanure Castle, near Oughterard.

As places are limited, advance booking is advised. Call the Museum on (091) 532460 from Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm.
