Volunteering Opportunities

Galway City Museum’s volunteering programme is designed to inspire and benefit those taking part as much as it is to support the museum. All opportunities have flexible commitment requirements and aim to provide a rewarding and enriching experience for all.

Front of House

The positions for front of house are part-time only, duties include: welcoming and greeting visitors to the museum, helping visitors with any question they may have, answering telephone enquiries, general information on Galway city and general house-keeping. The nature and size of the museum means that if desired, a volunteer can get involved in some other aspects of the museum’s departments. At present we are developing our programme for some of our volunteers to become specialised gallery tour guides…which is very exciting!!

Exhibition Invigilator

This is a new part of our programme and positions are part time only. The duties include: welcoming visitors into the gallery, general house-keeping for all exhibition spaces and exhibition information desk.

Unfortunately we do not offer Internships or Erasmus positions at present.

Work Experience & Transition Year Placements

Currently the museum does not have the capacity to offer work experience placements for the academic year 2019 / 2020, but we hope to in the future.

All applicants must be over 18 years old to volunteer at the Galway City Museum. For further information on GCM’s volunteer programme please contact the volunteer coordinator (Ciara O’Reilly): museum@galwaycity.ie

Galway City Museum opens Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm.  Admission is FREE!
